I am currently working on a color scheme for the exterior of a Spanish Colonial turned California Contemporary style house. The challenge will be to unify the architectural elements and create a harmonious whole with a pleasing but striking color scheme. Not easy.
Once I figure out how to upload “before” pictures of the house, I will have an easier time describing what I am doing!
In the mean time, Yolo Colorhouse http://www.yolocolorhouse.com/ has a beautiful exterior palette to work form! I am excited about their colors! They have carefully designed colors that work beautifully with the architectural scale of a wall in bright sunlight. That makes so much sense to me! It can be very confusing when you’ve got 1000 colors to choose from. I am aware that color can look too bright and overbearing when scaled up.

My paintings have had a blue theme lately. I wasn’t conscious of it till someone brought it to my attention. Why am I painting with a blue palette? I love how it feels, I guess. I am letting that be my guide and not dwell on it too much … “I am going through a blue period!”, I thought! Then I picked up Philip Ball’s “The Bright Earth” during some random researching and was delighted to come upon a quote from Kadinski that was able to capture my feelings in words! “The power of profound meaning is found in blue… Blue is the typical heavenly color. The ultimate feeling it creates is one of rest. When it sinks almost to black, it echoes a grief that is hardly human.”
I’ll have some blue paintings showing at the CoalShed Open Studios this coming Saturday, December 6th. 2pm thru 8pm. Art, live music, boat parade, etc. It promises to be a fun event. Please join us!
